Review: Roots, York

Where do I even begin to describe how excellent Roots was. Roots is the York-based venture from the world-renowned chef, Tommy Banks. It was originally designed to be a sharing plates restaurant but has evolved into a tasting menu or Sunday lunch, since they reopened, post-lockdown. I have been wanting to visit Tommy’s main restaurant in Oldstead, which has a Michelin star, for years, however, it has always been difficult to book a reservation at. When Roots announced that they were offering a tasting menu, I couldn’t wait to try it. Much to my luck and surprise, my amazing family booked Roots for a special birthday dinner. We enjoyed the tasting menu along with the wine pairings and it did not disappoint. Every mouthful of the meal was a delight and packed full of amazing and intense flavour. The service was on-point from start to finish and the surroundings and decor were pristine and welcoming. Below is the menu that I was lucky enough to experience this week, I highly recommend a visit to this fantastic restaurant that I am sure will have a Michelin star soon and it makes me even more excited to try The Black Swan at Oldstead!
