Restaurants Review York

Fish and Forest: York

Fish and Forest has to be one of my new favourite restaurants. Located up Mickelgate with an almost hidden front, lies this amazing restaurant, complete with a wonderful heated patio with booths at its rear. They have a continually changing menu, based around what is fresh that very morning, which they bring out and explain to you from an old-school chalkboard. Primarily fish-based, they definitely know what they’re are doing, we all agreed that the king scallop with kimchi was probably the best scallop dish we’d all had and such a unique and brilliant combination. In all we had a king scallop and a cured trout starter, skate wing, pheasant, and pollock for mains, and finished with a lemon cheesecake and chocolate delice for dessert. Between three of us this was plenty filling and without wine came to just over £100, extremely well priced for the quality. The wine list was also very impressive and an excellent range that, again, was very well priced, we even had two bottles of the same we loved it so much (Villa wolf,  Gewurztraminer). Check out their Instagram and their website for pictures of their dishes and a sample menu. During lockdown, they have been doing pies which they deliver straight to your door and you just bake in the oven, coming in at £30 for two people and delicious, which I will write more about soon!
